The chief requirements pertaining to coating materials and systems for mineral substrates are specified in DIN 1062, Part 1:

• Preservation of the original condition and appearance of the substrate
• Creation of surface effects by way of modification, or restoration of the original appearance
• Protection of the substrate against aesthetic and/or functional impairment, e.g. by weather influences.
